Reducing our environmental footprint, boosting energy efficiency, and reaching ambitious carbon reduction targets are our priorities as we rise towards a sustainable future.

What we do

As a responsible company, we have set ambitious carbon reduction targets. We were able to increase the share of green electricity by 68% during the last year, significantly reduced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions over the last two years, and track progress with our robust environmental management system.

Science Based Targets

Our ambitious targets for the reduction of our GHG emissions have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

  • We commit to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 53% by 2030 (base year: 2019). We also pledge to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions from use of sold products by 23% by 2030 (base year: 2021).
  • The targets covering GHG emissions from our operations (Scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with the standards set by the Paris Agreement which targetsto keep global warming to 1.5°C. Our target for emissions from the value chain (Scope 3) meets the SBTi’s criteria for ambitious value chain goals, meaning that they are in line with current best practices.

Climate Protection

We aim to reduce our carbon emissions across the entire value chain. Our vehicle fleet of more than 16,000 vehicles has the largest impact on our emissions. We are therefore concentrating our efforts on reducing our carbon footprint by reducing the mileage covered by our technicians and successively switching our fleet to hybrid and pure electric vehicles.

  • We were recognized in the acclaimed A-List of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for a third consecutive year. The report can be found here.
  • We reduced our direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions from energy purchases (Scope 2) by 24% by the end of the fiscal year 2022/23 (base year 2018/19).

Energy Efficiency

The main focus of our energy management is the use of green energy and boosting our energy efficiency measures. 93% of the electricity consumed in our manufacturing facilities worldwide comes from renewable sources.

  • 68% of the electricity consumed in our operations worldwide comes from renewable sources.
  • TK Elevator has joined the global RE100 initiative and committed itself to only use renewable electricity across its global operations by 2030.

Environmental Management

As of 2022/23, 80% of our manufacturing centers were ISO 14001-certified and our ISO 50001-certified factories accounted for 82% of their energy consumption.

  • All our sites collect energy and water consumption as well as waste data on a regular basis.
  • We focus on waste reduction and aim to achieve zero landfill waste in our manufacturing facilities by 2026.
  • We promote recycling waste and the reuse of packaging materials thereby contributing towards a circular economy.
  • Our Innovation and Qualification Center (IQC) in Atlanta (Georgia), U.S., our manufacturing facility in Middleton (Tennessee), U.S., and our offices in Zhongshan (China) are LEED (“Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design”) Gold certified. Our elevator manufacturing site in Zhongshan (China) has been awarded LEED Silver certification.

Our Commitments

  • We will use 100% renewable electricity across global operations by 2030.
  • We aim to reduce the emissions from our operations (Scopes 1 and 2) to keep global warming to 1.5°C as targeted by the Paris Agreement, and the emissions from our value chain (Scope 3) in line with the SBTi’s criteria for ambitious value chain goals.
  • We aim to reach net-zero global emissions by 2050, at the latest.
