TK Elevator equips Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport with innovative Remote Control System for Passenger Boarding Bridges

  • New Remote Control System by TK Elevator for the first time in use in a real flight operation.
  • System improves passenger experience and allows higher business efficiency for airport operators.

Istanbul/Düsseldorf, November 18, 2021 – For the very first time, TK Elevator´s new Remote Control System (RCS) for Passenger Boarding Bridges is in operation at a major European airport: At the Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport the innovative RCS has now been installed to fasten docking and undocking processes of passenger flights.

The RCS, which is a combination of hardware and software, allows Passenger Boarding Bridges to be safely controlled by an operator from a remote position instead of the classic operation inside the bridge. Previously, it was necessary to move the systems manually at each landing and adapt them to the respective model on site at the stand for the different aircraft types.

The new system consists of a set of cameras to give the operator an enlarged field of view when docking and undocking a passenger boarding bridge. High-precision sensors assist the operator during the positioning process. The solution thus saves the time used by operators to move from one passenger boarding bridge to another and increases staff efficiency and minimizes the risk of damage to aircraft.

“Based on the experience of over 5,500 Passenger Boarding Bridges installed worldwide, TK Elevator’s goal is to improve airport’s efficiency and traveler’s mobility at airports through smart technologies and intelligent solutions. The new Remote Control System improves turnaround times of airplanes and operational savings while offering increased safety in busy airports which face growing mobility requirements. The system makes docking operations at airports smoother and helps saving energy”, explains Manuel Alvarez, CEO Airport Solutions at TK Elevator.

The implementation of TK Elevator’s Remote Control System makes the Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport a leader in employing the latest technology in order to maximize efficiency, comfort and safety in airport operation.
