TK Elevator Wins Red Dot Design Award 2024 for Autonomous Innovation

  • TK Elevator's ‘Intelligent Elevator Cleaning System’ design concept has won the Red Dot Design Award 2024 in the ‘Autonomous’ category.
  • Utilizing AI, the discreet system design would detect passenger presence and activates its cleaning mechanism during elevator downtime.

Düsseldorf, July 23, 2024 - TK Elevator, a global leader in mobility solutions, has again been recognized for its design expertise with a Red Dot Award honoring the company’s novel elevator cleaning system concept developed by TK Elevator Korea. This marks TK Elevator’s fifth Red Dot Award since becoming an independent company in 2020.

The award-winning ‘Intelligent Elevator Cleaning System’ concept envisions an automated floor-cleaning device that detects the presence of passengers using AI and deploys the cleaning device when the elevator is not in operation. Powered by regenerated energy from the elevator, the concept would ensure continuous cleanliness without causing disruption to passengers or elevator operations.

With post-pandemic attention to hygiene, a clean and pleasant elevator interior is essential for property owners, managers, and passengers. TK Elevator’s cleaning system concept was designed as a practical and efficient solution for modern elevator environments. When not in operation, it would integrate seamlessly into the kickplate area, making it a stealthy and unobtrusive design.

"TK Elevator has a strong presence in Korea and is known for developing technically advanced products that address user needs. This design recognition showcases our expertise in aesthetic and experiential solutions that continue to move beyond conventional thinking," said Jürgen Böhler, CEO Asia Pacific of TK Elevator.

David Suh, CEO Korea of TK Elevator, added, "Winning one of the world's most prestigious design awards not only highlights our leadership in ideation and innovation but also underscores our customer-centric approach in everything we do. The most remarkable aspect of the design is that it would operate without passengers noticing. It demonstrates TK Elevator's commitment to ensuring safe, convenient, and comfortable rides for all passengers."

TK Elevator’s award-winning system is an innovative design concept that showcases the future of elevator technology, closely aligned with public and customer needs. While not yet commercially available, it represents an exciting potential future product offering.

For decades, TK Elevator has played a significant role in the development of Korea's urban infrastructure through inventive and user-friendly mobility solutions for commercial and residential developments, as well as transportation infrastructure projects. TK Elevator’s Multi-Purpose Facility in Cheonan, Korea, is a world-class manufacturing facility and center of excellence for training and innovation.

The Red Dot Design Award is an international design competition held annually recognizing leading organizations worldwide for their new and innovative designs. TK Elevator has won five Red Dot awards since becoming an independent company in 2020: two for its new brand identity (brand design & identity; corporate design & identity, 2021); one for its S200 stairlift (product design, 2021); and, one for its Color Index System (interaction and user experience design, 2023).
