Determining the most Suitable Elevator Type
There are two basic types of elevators: hydraulic lifts and traction elevators. Hydraulic elevators are powered by hydraulic pumps, whereas traction elevators are motor driven. Traditionally, traction elevators are often quieter than hydraulic ones, and typically consume less energy, but they require more space.
But this is no longer the case. TK Elevator offers modern traction elevators in machine-room less configurations, designed specifically with the Indian market in mind. TKE’s versatile low-rise elevator models are suitable for typical Indian residential and small-scale commercial developments. For retrofit projects, our machine room-less and compact elevator models enable retrofits in buildings with limited space, creating additional possibilities for retrofit projects.
Selecting the right elevator type is vital, given the various options available in the market. If you are uncertain about the ideal choice, contact one of our local branches for a cost-free and professional consultation.

Lift Base Installation
Once the optimal location and lift type are determined, the installation process begins. The first step involves installing the elevator base, which may require digging a pit to accommodate the lift. Base design and construction are critical to ensure proper lift support and will determine the elevator's stability and security.
Lift Shaft Construction
Subsequently, the construction of the elevator shaft starts. This phase involves building the structural framework that supports the elevator car during operation. An elevator shaft needs to provide robust support for the elevator's various components. The construction needs to adhere to precise standards to ensure that the shaft can withstand the forces generated by the lift operation.
Lift Installation
Installing the lift begins with setting up of the elevator machinery. Components such as the machine, pulleys, cables, and related components need to be installed. Subsequently, the elevator car is placed in the shaft and the wiring, the doors and the control systems are put in place.
Lift Safety Checks
Before elevator operations can begin, it is important to perform rigorous safety checks. Various safety features, proper door operations and alignment, emergency intercoms, the elevator leveling and of course the elevator breaks, and maximum loading need to be tested. In India, the National Building Code of India (Part 8 Building Services, Section 5: Installation of Lifts, Escalators and Moving Walks) provides an overview of legal requirements related to lift operations. In addition to that, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) provides guidelines that outline safety requirements for elevator design, construction, installation and maintenance. In some areas, local government bodies may have specified additional requirements and guidelines.
