Safety factor no. 1 in every lift

The emergency call system is one of the most important safety devices in a lift. A lift maintenance contract is therefore usually accompanied by connecting the lift to our 24-hour service- and emergency call centre. Lift owners and operators are obligated to initiate rescue measures in the event of a breakdown with a person trapped inside. A reliable emergency call system provides you with optimum support in such situations by immediately establishing a connection to the operations call centre.

A reliable emergency call system must first and foremost guarantee a stable alarm connection. Thanks to advances in mobile communications technology – and also due to the transformation of analogue landlines to VoIP-based systems and the beginning phase-out of legacy mobile communication standards like 2G – a state-of-the-art wireless connection represents the optimum solution. The cellular technology used by TK Elevator always selects the best connection, regardless of the network provider. Every 72 hours, the system automatically checks whether the connection is active and working. The system is power failure-proof and complies with the requirements of EN 81-28.

TKE upgrades your emergency call system – regardless of the brand of your lift

Changes to the British cellular network infrastructures have an impact on the emergency call system of lifts. Many of the legacy devices installed into lifts were designed to work on the traditional copper landlines - and were not developed or tested to work on fibre networks. As such - there is a risk that the system installed on your lift may not be able to place an emergency call when it is most needed. Without timely retrofitting, the lift could be decommissioned. TK Elevator helps you regardless of the manufacturer.

How a lift emergency call system works

Thanks to advances in mobile communications technology, connecting your lift wirelessly is nowadays the optimum. Cellular technology used by TK Elevator always selects the best connection, regardless of the network. The entire system is also power failure-proof.

And this is how an emergency call system with cellular connection works:

❶ A passenger presses the emergency call button for at least three seconds because the lift has "got stuck".

❷ The communications module transmits the alarm and available status data of the lift via cellular networks and establishes a voice connection with the 24-hour operations centre.

❸ The 24-hour operations centre instructs the entrapped persons via telephone. At the same time, the emergency rescue measures are initiated.

❹ The emergency rescue operation by an authorised person (e.g. TKE service engineer, in-house lift warden etc.) begins no later than 30 minutes after the alarm is received.

These are your advantages with TK Elevator

The lift operator no longer has any production or administration costs for a fixed network line. TK Elevator supplies and is responsible for the connectivity of the emergency call system.

For the lift there are no longer any separate landline connection, data and call charges or corresponding invoices to the operator. The emergency call contract with TK Elevator provides cost transparency thanks to the flat rate for the SIM card as well as voice and data transfer.

They remain unaffected by developments in the landline sector and benefit from the progress and expansion of mobile networks. The system components used by TK Elevator are highly upgradeable.

What does the digital switch-over of the British telecom network mean for lift operator?

The digital switch-over is the term used to refer to ongoing changes to the UK telecoms network. Traditional copper telephone lines are being replaced by digital fibre lines. This is being undertaken to future proof and upgrade the UK telecom infrastructure, to support faster broadband and connectivity.

This means the end of the analogue (PSTN and ISDN) telephone service. Whilst this will help improve internet speed, the digital switch will have an impact on key safety devices that will no longer be supported, including lift emergency phones.
