Memphis, Tennessee (March 31, 2022) — Last week, TK Elevator and the Memphis Grizzlies hosted students from local colleges in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas for “Pro Sports Engineering Day” at FedExForum. Students majoring in engineering and supply chain management enjoyed a glimpse into the life of the elevator industry leader, starting with an engaging tradeshow exhibit in the main lobby.
TK Elevator employees from its nearby Germantown and Middleton locations discussed the modern products and technologies powering TK Elevator’s new installation and modernization business lines – products that have been keeping people safely moving throughout FedExForum since 2004. Students then moved to the main arena floor for an informative discussion with some TK Elevator local leaders, including Paul Locke, EVP Production and Supply Chain; Eyana Cain, Supervisor-CE Mechanical New Installation; Evan McCutcheon, Engineering Supervisor, MOD & Components; and Lisa Haywood-Kertchaval, Senior Director of HR and Labor Relations.
The event concluded with students observing how TK Elevator service technicians from the Memphis Field branch maintain or service elevators at FedExForum. The hands-on presentation included taking elevators out of service and showing the rarely seen parts of elevator systems, including the car top and shaft.
“It was wonderful having so many of the top young minds in our area join us for this special event as they learned what makes TK Elevator and this industry so special,” shared Paul Locke. “Engineering, manufacturing and supply chain management are the heart and soul of TK Elevator. Each one plays a critical role in helping building owners and managers meeting growing urbanization demands while ensuring the safe movement of millions of people every day. There has never been a better time to be a part of this industry, and we look forward to helping these passionate students continue on their professional journeys as they seek to make a difference in the world.”
TK Elevator has been making a difference in the Memphis community for more than 50 years. In 1969, TK Elevator opened its North American manufacturing headquarters in nearby Middleton. In addition to manufacturing products that help people move safer and more efficiently, TK Elevator has also focused on improving the environmental impact of the Middleton facility itself. Three years ago, it earned ISO50001 certification, an energy management standard presented to industrial and commercial facilities that effectively manage all aspects of energy procurement and use.
The Middleton facility was also LEED Gold certified in 2015 and, at the time, was the only elevator factory in the world to receive LEED certification for an existing building. Since then, it has implemented numerous environmentally friendly best practices that has helped it use less energy and water and reduce emissions.
TK Elevator has also been very active in the community as it has long prioritized being responsible corporate citizens. For example, TK Elevator is a proud sponsor of the World Golf Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Invitational and has been intimately involved in community events.
