The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) recently updated Florida building code A17.3-2015 to contain the retroactive requirement 3.10.12 which requires a system to monitor the position and state of Elevator cab doors and prevent a cab from operating when the door is not closed. This code update affects over 80,000 elevators across Florida, all of which must be in compliance with new code by December 31, 2023.
