Just as the brain sends signals throughout the body for movement, the controller does the same for an elevator system.

An elevator controller operates through various computer functions and is also known as a logic device. This device is essential for an elevator to run smoothly. The controller monitors the systems, receives signals from the elevator, and sends out signals that manage the different components. The controller, or control system, will watch and manage all key functions of an elevator — everything from door opening speed to travel time between floors.

Controllers are not restricted to one specific size or shape. They can take on many forms and provide different functions based on the system’s needs. A controller can often either be found in a control box inside a machine room or in the hoistway for an MRL application.
