Often associated with the phrases “firefighters’ operation” or “fire recall,” Fire Service is a complex safety feature that can remove all elevator cabs from their usual duties. The intent of the fire service access elevator (FSAE) is to provide firefighers and other first responders with quick access to floors and to speed up evacuation from a building.
The panel to access Phase I of the system is located on the wall fixture and will have a lock that only firefighters can access with their universal fire services key. For Phase II, the first responders can activate the fire service keyswitch inside the elevator cab and operate the elevator from within the cab. Having a fire service fixture in every elevator is required by ASME A17.1 code.
