Since the 1990s, companies have used fixtures and buttons with LED lights behind them to simplify operating an elevator. There are a couple of varying styles that fixtures on modern elevators can have.
Fixture Style – Traditional
Most commonly used is the traditional style of fixtures which typically features round buttons and triangle lenses to call the elevator. These have been the most popular since the rise of fixture styles.
Fixture Style – Vandal Resistant
If there is a concern of vandalism or defacing in the area the building is located, this is an option that building owners and managers can choose when designing their elevator. This elevator fixture style is designed to be much more difficult to break. They are most commonly found in unmonitored areas such as back of house, utility or parking garage elevators. However, it is not uncommon for building developers to require them throughout their buildings for quality assurance.
