Platform

When the elevator arrives at your floor, you wait for the doors to open before stepping onto the platform. That’s right, the elevator platform is simply the floor of the elevator – made to carry all passengers safely to their destination.

Since the platform is essentially the entire bottom of the cab where passengers or load is carried, it is as carefully designed as every other part of the elevator system. The platform is placed in a sling, also known as the frame of an elevator, and is supported by brace rods in each corner. This gives the platform support as it’s carried with the cab walls, flooring and ceiling throughout the hoistway.

Platforms also typically have isolation pads to keep the noise down for the passenger. Whether it’s rubber or another vibration-absorbing material – these pads lower the transmission of vibration along the cab to reduce noise in the platform.
