While some portions of the elevator cab are absolutely non-negotiable such as the walls and ceiling, there are certain elements that an elevator can function without but adds great value when installed. Some of these can include position indicators, cab padding and touchscreen kiosks.
Touchscreen Kiosks
Touchscreen kiosks are ushering in the future of elevator technology. They are placed outside of the elevator on each destination floor for simple access. These kiosks make it easy to get to your floor on time and are a part of destination dispatch technology. They can include motion sensors, a dock area and even an RFID card reader for enhanced security.
Cab Padding
Popular with freight and residential elevators, cab padding is a consistently useful accessory. Padding protects the interior of the cab (especially the cab walls) and gives peace of mind to passengers carrying large or oddly shaped items that could scratch the walls.
Position Indicators
Also known as hall target indicators, this accessory is usually mounted above the elevator opening to display the listed destinations for passengers. They come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, display options and more.
Pit Switch
A safety device used to disable the car before entering the pit.
Car Top Station
A device, located on top of the car, used by maintenance personnel to control the car movement.
These are just some of the many accessories or add-ons that may be offered when installing or modernizing your elevator, so it’s important to make sure that you’re aware of all the possible offerings when choosing an elevator company to work with.
